About Vela

This is Vela.

Jewelry has always felt like more than an accessory to me. We collect it. We remember where we wore it. We borrow it from each other. We pass it down. We notice it on strangers. We tell someone we love their necklace and suddenly we're connected.

Maybe that's what I love most about jewelry: it becomes personal. The same piece can mean something completely different—or look completely different—depending on who's wearing it.

I love when someone wears something in a way that feels so distinctly them. But I also think the best personal style evolves with you. We’re human. Our tastes change, our lives change, and the version of ourselves getting dressed today might want something completely different than the one from a year ago.

Vela was created to leave room for that.

A necklace can be the piece you wear by itself every day for months, and then suddenly it’s layered with three others. You can wear something delicate one day and reach for color and weird little gemstones the next. There isn’t one right way to wear any of it. The point is that it feels like you.

Because the world is already messy and complicated enough. We spend so much of our lives fitting into different roles, making the sensible choice, figuring out what’s expected of us, and trying to fit ourselves neatly into one box or another.

Your jewelry doesn’t have to be another box to fit into.

Vela is supposed to be the fun part. Something you put on because you love it. Something that makes an outfit feel more like yours. A small way to express yourself without needing to explain yourself.

Everything is designed and handmade in small quantities using natural gemstones and materials chosen to actually be worn and loved. Some designs become part of Origin, our signature collection. Others are one-of-one and won’t ever exist in quite the same way again.

The name Vela is personal, too. It’s inspired by my grandmothers and the women I grew up watching get dressed, accessorize, and make things their own. It felt right to build something in their honor that, at its core, is about having your own point of view.

There are enough places in life where we’re expected to fit neatly into one version of ourselves. Vela doesn’t need to be one of them.

Wear the quiet piece. Wear the weird one. Wear both. We support you.

With love,
